Frankie and Noah’s amazing experience at Ullswater

It all started at 5 o’clock in the morning when we got to school ready to get on the coach for the most fun time of our lives!

As soon as we got there , we got a tour of Ullswater and in the first few minutes , I knew it would be the experience of a lifetime .

My favourite activities were: Jog-and-dip which was sooo fun.  You got to dunk your head under water . Cold!  Then you got to jump off a jetty.  But this was was the bit where you got verrry tired. While being soaking wet , we RAN UP A HILL BACK TO OUR GROUPS PLACE!  I was already exhausted but I knew there was more to come.

After that tiring activity, we went back up to our dorms and changed into warm clothes. We then got into a mini van and drove to the mountain we were going to climb! It was at night so it made it more fun. The boggy walk was very hard but really exciting to do . Everyone was slipping over and I  nearly slide-tackled my friend [K] accidentally .We got to the top and our instructor [called Tom] told us a story while all of us looked at the stars . On the way down , it was the most fun part about Ullswater in Frankie’s opinion.

On the 2nd day,  we hopped back in the mini van and drove to a bigger mountain then last time! While we were up the mountain, we found lots of different edible plants!  We even ate a red ant. (It tasted like lemon.)  Also we ate a plant that looked like a clover but it was heart shaped and had 3 leaves.  It tasted like sour apple. (It was  called wood sorrel.)

Ullswater is the most exciting place I have ever been. Full of activities, fun and loads more. Activities such as: mountain-climbing , gorge-walking, tunnelling,  hill-climbing, and orienteering,

Our Trip To Ullswater By George And Filip

When we first got to Ullswater we knew this would be the best week of our lives! First we got introduced to our instructors, after that we then got shown to our dormitories. My (George’s) dorm was F7 which was with;  M, M, G, C, and N.  My (Fillip’s) dorm was F8 with: L, L, D, P and T. Then we got to choose our lunch, breakfast and dinner for the whole week.

FIRST FAVOURITE ACTIVITY:

1. Jog-n-dip

Jog-n-dip was the best because we got to slowly walk into the freezing cold water and some of us submerged fully! Then, we got onto the jetty and then most of us jumped in. It was 2 metres deep!

SECOND FAVOURITE ACTIVITY:

2. TUNNELING

When we went tunnelling it was pitch black which made it even funnier. We also had to put on these boiler suits so we didn`t get dirty [it made us look like Mario!]  We got to go in groups so we wouldn`t get lost, our group was : Filip, George, L and P.  We found it to easy so we did it without  our head torches, which was funny since we kept bashing our heads.

THIRD FAVOURITE ACTIVITY:

3. GORGE-WALKING

On the third day we went gorge-walking.  When we got there we sat down and waited for another group to get ahead so we didn`t bump into them up the gorge. While we waited we had a snack to restore our energy. Once we got started it was sooo fun. We also learnt to do a Roman handshake to help people to get up. Once we were nearly got to the top there was a giant waterfall that we had to climb [it was a quite a challenge].

So that was our trip to Ullswater.

Ullsaater trip by Maddie and Cristine

Activities

Our favourite activities were jog-and-dip, gorge-walking and tunnelling.  These were our favourite activities because they were fun and challenged us beyond our comfort zones.  Our least favourite activities were rock-climbing and orienteering because they made us stretch even further from our comfort zones.

Facilities

When we got there, the duty instructor kindly welcomed us and explained the activities and what time they were.  They also explained what time breakfast and dinner were.  At Ullswater, you have dorms from two to eight people and you will be allowed to choose who you are with.  In your dorm, you will be provided with a shower, toilet and sink.

Gian and Cairon’s trip to Ullswater

On November 27th 2022, we went on a residential trip to Ullswater Centre for 5 days. It started off by going to school at 5am to ride on a coach for 7 hours and we looked like we were full of energy but we were very tired. When we arrived, we had our lunch and our journey had started.

Day 1:

We met our instructor, who was Ian, and introduced us to our rooms and our first task was to do our beds. We met at the garden and our instructor told us to either look or get something that was nice and explained why we liked it. After that, we did team building games on a plank of wood which according to Daniel, “It’s The slab of wood”. We had to order ourselves in  shoe size, age and height and we couldn’t speak so we used our hands to explain what we were supposed to say. After this, we went to our pods and talked about what we did to communicate and what we are going to do during the 5 days. We did another team building game, which involved pipes and a golf ball. Once we did that, we ate dinner, which was very delicious, then we went back outside and it was so dark. The next task was jog and dip, which was going in the freezing water plus it was night which made it colder. Ian got our buoyancy aid and he attached a glow stick to our buoyancy aid to make sure we didn’t float away and get lost from each other. It was very cold like you were encased in a block of ice, our whole body froze! After that we took off our buoyancy aid and walked back to the Centre, we took a warm shower and drank hot chocolate. Afterwards, we went to our dorms, went into our pyjamas and slept.

Day 2

The next day, we woke up by a woman banging on the door which was right next to Cairon’s ear. We had to rush to clean our room and got a good score for our room. We ate a whole British breakfast and it was delicious. We got free time after breakfast but after that we got ready for lunch and then set off. We went to do canoeing but first we had to build the canoes together in a team with ropes and logs. When we finished building the canoe, we went out into the water and had a race, sang songs and looked at the beautiful view. After that we went to the other side of the lake and ate lunch, drank hot chocolate and did some activities such as collecting wood for the fire. After we got back to the other side, we were very tired and our arms ached. We did another activity, which we don’t remember sadly, and from what I recall, it was fun.

Day 3

After day 2 we ate breakfast and then we had to get ready for the longest walk of our lives. We were going to climb a very high hill (it’s not high enough to be a mountain like Pluto). It was very high and very tiring, we had a lot of rests) we saw a lot of robins and cool plants. One of our stopping places was a very nice forest with rocks covered in moss, it was like sitting on a carpet. When we got to the very top, we were in the clouds! It was like we were in heaven except very cold. We started to go down, which felt longer going down, and saw a waterfall. We went back to the van that we went in and left the hill. Most of day 3 we don’t really remember.

Day 4

After day 3, we went back to the van and went rock climbing. It wasn’t as bad as we thought but that was a really short activity as we had to go early to go do gorge climbing. Gorge climbing is climbing a small water fall and we tried different techniques to keep ourselves safe like a roman handshake, gorilla walk and holding each other when we pulled someone up. We got very wet, which is obvious, and our boots filled with water. The day was like any other day dinner then sleep.

Last day

The last day was very emotional (not really) and our first activity of the day was rowing. It was canoeing but with oars and a bigger boat. It was really hard and tiring but luckily it wasn’t that hard. From what I remember we might’ve got stuck and a man on a speedboat had to save us. The speedboat was the best part, it was fast and very cool. Sadly after that we had to leave. We packed up and left for school. On the coach, we ate sandwiches and slept. Our parents and family members were very happy to see us after a few days away.

A little mention and overall rating

We rate this place a 9.5 out of 10 and I recommend going here also each day we had to do room inspection so we had to clean a lot of our room.

TRIP TO ULLSWATER – JESS AND SHREYA

Everyone had to arrive at school at 4:00am and people put their bags in the bottom of the bus. Everyone got on saying goodbye to their parent.  We all sat with our friends and during the ride and some people fell asleep on the ride on the way there and back.  The coach there took 7 hours and when we finally arrived, we realized that we weren’t in the correct place and it took another 9 minutes to get to the actual buildings. The bus driver got annoyed and told one of the teachers to make us quiet.

When we arrived, We were sorted into groups and jess was in Shackleton and  Shreya was in Francis. We  went to our dormitories and made our beds. The people in our dorms were jess, Shreya, T, L, M and S.

In Shackleton  we did jog and dip on the same day we arrived in pitch black. We wore glow-in-the-dark bracelets on our buoyancy aids so our coach (Dan) could see us better.  Some people decided to dunk their head underwater multiple times whilst others went waist deep. We jogged back to the key room still drenched. We then went back up to our dorms and had a shower.

In Francis we went jog and dipping before Shackleton. Some people were afraid to go deeper and stayed on the land while other people were diving in.  We got to jump off a deck and the majority of people wanted to do it but a few  who didn’t go deep were brave enough to jump off the deck. We went to our dorms before and we showered.

Activities:

There was gorge-walking, jog-and-dip, rock-climbing, orienteering, lunch, free time, mountain-hiking, rowing, canoeing and tunnelling.

On the way back

The way back on the coach took another 7 hours and we arrived at 7:30pm. It was complete chaos!

Machaela and Imogen’s trip to Ullswater

Day 1

On the 28th of November, we woke up at 3am so we could catch the coach at school. We got on the coach at around 5am and started to drive for 7 and a half hours going to the amazing Outward Bound Ullswater Centre. Once we have arrived, we were immediately sorted into 4 groups: Mallory [our group], Shackelton, Tenzing and Francis, the groups were all named after explorers. Straight after, our team leaders then explained what we were going to do during the week. After, they told us our first thing we were going to do (making the bed). Our first activity was the jog and dip. The lake was absolutely freezing but the longer you were in it, it became warmer. We went back to the center for dinner and then the 2nd activity pt1 it was lots of fun even though we didn’t find everything. We ended the day with hot chocolate from the center, it kind of tasted like water but it but was still good.

Day 2

Our first activity for the day was Mountain climbing, our group thought that it was going to be really cold so we rapped up warm and it turned out to be quite hot and we were all sweating. After lots of walking we finally reached the top, also it was Machaela’s birthday so she was allowed to keep a rock from the top of the mountain. Then later in the day after dinner, we went around the center to do orienteering although we couldn’t find everything we got a lot done. Lastly to end off the day we had some hot chocolate.

Day 3

This day was the most fun in our opinion. We had a visitor, DAN, to help us with canoeing, we crossed the whole lake Ullswater! After dinner, we went in the extremely dark tunnels with only head torches. We went in groups and the objective was to get out through little tunnels to get out. We ended the day with water chocolate again. I’m not complaining though.

Day 4

This was our last full day before we had to leave. We loved this day the most maybe more we do not know but we loved this day because we did gouge walking, which is going up a waterfall. We got helped up for 5 minutes then we had to help each other and apparently our group had gotten the farthest up the gorge in 2-3 years , we were really proud. Then in the afternoon we did team building for an hour with DAN. That evening we started to pack up to leave tomorrow lunch time.

Day 5 (day of the leaving)

We woke up and moved our suitcases to the games room and then we were allowed to play the games in the games room. We had 3 more activity’s left. Fire lighting, post card making and orienteering 2pt. At around 10 am we started our orienteering pt2. We had our group leaders pick our groups I didn’t like some of the people but they were okay for that activity. In the end we did fire lighting (didn’t go well). Our last activity post card making, went pretty well we did pictures and notes. Then we went home on the 7 hour couch trip.

THANKS ULLSWATER WE WILL REMEMBER THIS FOREVER!

Julie and Mia – Ullswater report

Julie:

I prefer tunnelling because I was scared at first but then I tried it and I did not find it as bad as I thought. I challenged myself to try everything at Ullswater and despite being nervous for some, I overall ended up enjoying every second of it. I enjoyed the amazing experience.

Mia:

To me it didn’t matter about what activity I enjoyed most, but the ones that stretched me out of my comfort.   I think I thought jog and dip stretched me out of my comfort zone because we had to jump a depth where we could not touch the ground in the lake.

Both:

Overall, we loved all the amazing activities and how we did not have to spend thousands of pounds on equipment, they provided it including waterproofs, helmets and more!!!!!!

We loved the experience …

Thank you Ullswater!

Ellie and Theresa – Ullswater report

Here is our report about Ullswater. After a 7 hour coach trip, we finally arrived at Ullswater and got shown to our rooms and we got to meet our group leaders.  It depends what time you get there but once we got there we did a couple of activities.

Our favourite activity was tunnelling because we had a lot of freedom going through any tunnel we wanted. We had to use helmets and head torches. We also had to wear fleece trousers and jumpers but it depends if it was cold and what time of day you do tunnelling we did it at night and it was really cold so we had to. It was a bit scary at first but then it was really fun once we got the hang of it.

Our second favourite activity was gorge walking because we had to work as one big team and it was really fun lying in the water near the end. The equipment we had to use was, gorge jackets and trousers, helmets and boots. At first it was a bit awkward because the water was really cold and the rocks were slippery someone got their foot stuck too. But eventually we all understood what we had t do and it was really fun.

Finally, our third favourite activity was walking up the mountain with our friends and views (mostly seeing the sheep!)

In the dorms there was 1-4 bunk beds (2-8 beds) 1-2 showers and toilets and possibly a sink or 2 to brush your teeth.

Our teachers told us our groups and our group instructors.

We loved Ullswater

My trip to Ullswater by Max and Karl

After a 7 hour long journey, we finally made it to Ullswater.  The coach was very comfortable and I sat with Malachi and George. Seeing as we left at 4am, I slept for around 2 hours and listened to music the whole time. Once we got there, we got in our groups ( our group was Malachi, Karl, Me, S, S M, C, K, B and Z) and brought all our belongings into our dorms and then went for our first (and one of our favourite) activities, the Jog ‘n’ Dip.

We may have just got there but it seemed as if we had been there the whole time. Water was cold, temperature was low, but spirits were flying. We started off by warming up then slowly walked in to our waist. It was then that he told us that we can put our whole bodies inside. It seemed like a good idea but it was so cold that it was fun. Not only that, but we were then allowed to jump off of the jetty and swim back to shore. We jumped off 3 times, Malachi once, C twice and the rest didn’t want to. Another one of our favourite ones was the orienteering, since we joined groups with S, C and D. It was fun, adventurous and exciting to be out in the dark wild.

Last, and most definitely not least, tunnelling. We got all our gear on then went straight into them. There were 4 different size tunnels; the largest being big enough to crawl through, the next still a good size, then the last two being only a sliding through it. We even played manhunt whilst not having our torches and I (Max) won.

So if you’re ever looking for a place to go with your family, you just found the right place.

Grainne’s Ullswater blog

I think everyone who has gone to Ullswater can say that this was an amazing experience. We are all different people now than we were when we arrived. We learnt new skills, and accomplished many things.

After a 7 hour coach ride, we met our instructors and explored our dorms. We unpacked our things before heading straight to an activity, there were five different groups and they each had a name, our group name was “Tenzing” It was great.

We did all sorts of fun activities, like: mountain hiking, Gorge- walking, canoeing, rowing, night lines, orienteering, jog and dips ( where you jog into a FREEZING cold lake at night) and even more! Wow, I promise you it is great…

On the very last day, you will be expected to unmake your bed and pack your things, (leaving your dorm nice and tidy). Then you will do one last activity before you eat lunch, and hop back on the coach for your journey home. Also you will get to pick your lunch and breakfast when you arrive, things like: Waffles, English breakfast, vegetarian breakfast, sandwiches, fruit, snacks and more! Dinner will be a surprise but if you don’t like it you will be given something you do like. After your evening activity you will get hot coco and biscuits before heading to b

Ullswater

When we arrived at the Lake District, we were introduced to our duty instructor, who is the person who will be looking after you at your stay. They will make sure you will wake up on time for the upcoming activities and that you will arrive for breakfast, lunch and dinner on time. Each different group has a different time slot for eating.

Dorms

After a while your dorm instructor will assign you to your dorm. And after a while they will take you to your first activity around 10:30. Your dorms are a good size due to your amount you share with and they have bunk beds in the corner with your own bathrooms.

Food

There are different time slots for different groups and there is hot chocolate after dinner time. After you have got dressed you have to make your way to breakfast. After our dinner, we would either go down towards the game room and play varieties of games like pool, chess, and more, or you can stay in your dorm.

Activities

There is a different range of activities to do there, like canoeing or gorge walking. There are activities to do with water or land you can even climb mountains. You will have two grownups to look after your group throughout the day. You will do around 4 activities per day, 1 in the morning 1 during lunch and sometimes in the afternoon.

Ullswater by Malachi and Kacper

Ullswater

After a 7-hour trip to Ullswater, we finally arrived.

Immediately, we had to unpack our bags, which was so boring, then we went to our first activity.

Malachi’s  and Kacper’s (our) favourite activity was tunnelling because we liked going through the smallest tunnels as it was challenging,  We also liked river dipping and canoeing because it was also really easy but challenging. We also enjoyed campfire because we roasted marshmallows which was so nice. the dormitories were great. We had to do our pillow cases ourselves along with our bed sheets. other than that, it was amazing, they have the most comfortable beds!!!  The ride back home was so funnnnn because Kacper shared his food, of course. that’s the rest of our trip. Bye.

Louis and Luciano’s trip to Ullswater

ULLSWATER

Outward Bound Centre

Our journey started at an early 4.30 in the morning. After a 6 hour trip (with one stop) we finally made it! As we approached, we saw the beautiful lakes and stunning landscape of Cumbria. After we pulled up, we met the head instructor. Afterwards, we headed to our dorms and made our beds. Then, we met our instructors in our team pods (I was Mallory, I was Shackelton!) and were told some of our activities, not all!

Activities

The wide range of activities include:

Tunnelling (we went down dark tunnels with headlights) 10/10

Jog and dip (jumping in a freezing cold lake and running out) 6/10

Gorge Walk/Climb (we climbed up a huge gorge) 10/10

Hiking up a mountain 7.5/10

Canoeing (self explanatory!) 9/10

Kit/accommodation

The accommodation is incredible! The views from the dorms are stunning, and there are many different facilities. There is one for everyone! As you wake up from the dorms, breakfast will be waiting for you! Delicious waffles covered in fresh maple syrup, a full English breakfast with sausages and a whole array of delicious food. Don’t worry if you forget something: the centre offers a variety of stuff including shoes, waterproofs and warm clothes just to name a few. Lunch and dinner are also provided. There are also many different rooms that help you enjoy your stay, like the games room which has a foosball table, a pool table, many sofas and a tuck shop. Kit rooms, pods where you meet up and more when you visit Ullswater. Your team has their own kit room, which provides: head torches, mittens, whistles, ropes and more.

Conclusion

There are many things to take away from this trip, but the main one is definitely teamwork. I hope that if you go to Ullswater, this will inform you.

FLEUR’S and TINA’S NON-TRIP TO ULLSWATER

This is our non-Trip to Ullswater . Fleur and my friend Tina stayed at school for a week while the rest of Year 6 were out for a residential Trip.

We stayed in the Year 4 classroom and we had two seats out side the Year 4 door.  We also had a booklet with all of the tasks we needed to do like: we needed to check the weather in Ullswater and Norwich and compare them. Then we did a comic strip based on the gunpowder plot. Next we did a Magna carta letter to king Charles sign nowadays. After we did our English work we researched Ullswater pictures and created a piece of art based on how Ullswater looks like. On Wednesday we did a guy fawkes plot game and we did it together. Then we did our own poems and we could write what ever we wonted about the poems.

The best part was that we got to help little children and played with them which was the cutes thing ever. Me and my friend really enjoyed are stay at school it was really calm and quiet it was a delight to help the children.

Ullswater – Flo and Olivia

Ullswater trip

BY FLO & OLIVIA

It all started at 5am when we embarked on a 7 hour coach trip on the 27th November 2022.

FLO: My favourite activity was jumping in the lake Ullswater. It was really cold but somehow very enjoyable. It woke me up after a very long journey.

OLIVIA: My favourite activity was rock climbing because I didn’t give up and all my friends supported me. It also got me ready for gorge walking.

FLO: My second favourite activity was going through the tunnels with glow sticks. We partnered up and had to try and get from one entrance to the  only exit, it changed each time.

OLIVIA: My second favourite activity was gorge walking because we had to do a lot of team work, roman handshakes and a  gorilla walk.

FLO: We stayed there for five days and on each day we did something new. On the first day, we jumped in the lake and then had dinner which was chicken curry and pasta/rice. Then at 7 o’clock we climbed little mell fell we had to go through a swamp.

OLIVIA: Even though it was such a long coach trip when we got there we had some very fun activity’s  like playing on THE SLAB OF WOOD ! and then we swam into the lake all together  we swam out and then we went for tea which was pasta and curry.

FLO: On the way we muised over our incredible trip of a life time.

OLIVIA: Also on the way back we cruised over mountains and country hillside and we laughed the whole way home.
