Machaela and Imogen’s trip to Ullswater

on January 26, 2023

Day 1

On the 28th of November, we woke up at 3am so we could catch the coach at school. We got on the coach at around 5am and started to drive for 7 and a half hours going to the amazing Outward Bound Ullswater Centre. Once we have arrived, we were immediately sorted into 4 groups: Mallory [our group], Shackelton, Tenzing and Francis, the groups were all named after explorers. Straight after, our team leaders then explained what we were going to do during the week. After, they told us our first thing we were going to do (making the bed). Our first activity was the jog and dip. The lake was absolutely freezing but the longer you were in it, it became warmer. We went back to the center for dinner and then the 2nd activity pt1 it was lots of fun even though we didn’t find everything. We ended the day with hot chocolate from the center, it kind of tasted like water but it but was still good.

Day 2

Our first activity for the day was Mountain climbing, our group thought that it was going to be really cold so we rapped up warm and it turned out to be quite hot and we were all sweating. After lots of walking we finally reached the top, also it was Machaela’s birthday so she was allowed to keep a rock from the top of the mountain. Then later in the day after dinner, we went around the center to do orienteering although we couldn’t find everything we got a lot done. Lastly to end off the day we had some hot chocolate.

Day 3

This day was the most fun in our opinion. We had a visitor, DAN, to help us with canoeing, we crossed the whole lake Ullswater! After dinner, we went in the extremely dark tunnels with only head torches. We went in groups and the objective was to get out through little tunnels to get out. We ended the day with water chocolate again. I’m not complaining though.

Day 4

This was our last full day before we had to leave. We loved this day the most maybe more we do not know but we loved this day because we did gouge walking, which is going up a waterfall. We got helped up for 5 minutes then we had to help each other and apparently our group had gotten the farthest up the gorge in 2-3 years , we were really proud. Then in the afternoon we did team building for an hour with DAN. That evening we started to pack up to leave tomorrow lunch time.

Day 5 (day of the leaving)

We woke up and moved our suitcases to the games room and then we were allowed to play the games in the games room. We had 3 more activity’s left. Fire lighting, post card making and orienteering 2pt. At around 10 am we started our orienteering pt2. We had our group leaders pick our groups I didn’t like some of the people but they were okay for that activity. In the end we did fire lighting (didn’t go well). Our last activity post card making, went pretty well we did pictures and notes. Then we went home on the 7 hour couch trip.

THANKS ULLSWATER WE WILL REMEMBER THIS FOREVER!
