Learning and growing together in God's love.

Tianna, Nathalie and Harshni’s Ullswater experience!

Day 1

When we arrived at Ullswater, it was already dark outside. Our teacher’s handed out our bags to us and then we were assigned to our group instructors. We got lead to our rooms then, shortly after we played games with our group in the courtyard because we didn’t have much time to do a proper activity. After dinner, we had hot chocolate and did a bit of writing.

Day 2

On the second day, we were woken up early in the morning to have breakfast and start our day. After breakfast, we went to the kit room and got all of our equipment for our first activity. We were provided with fleece tops and trousers to keep us warm. Secondly, we drove in minibus B to our destination, where we were going to start our walk. After a few minutes of walking, we stopped for lunch and listened to the peaceful raindrops clash into the lake. We got back into the minibus after our walk and drove back to the centre. After dinner, we set off on our last activity for the day, jog ‘n’ dip. The river was so cold, we felt like we had frostbite! Some people jumped into the river, but it was your choice (Nathalie was too scared to).

Day 3

In the morning, we got all of our essential needs for the gorge walk. When we climbed the waterfall, it was cold at first, but then we got used to it and we worked together to successfully climb it to the top! Our last activity for that day was orienteering in the dark and it was so scary!!!! We actually got lost on our way because of how dark it was outside! We all accidently went the wrong ways and split up.

Day 4

On day 4, we were woken up at 7:00 to have breakfast. We walked to the kit room to meet our group, then we got all of our equipment and we wore extra layers!!! We set off for our hill walk, it was very tiring. We walked up Hallin Fell and we stopped midway to have lunch. As soon as we came back, we had a shower and got ready for our last activity of the day! Then we had dinner before we went down to the woods to have a campfire! We roasted some marshmallows over the fire and they were so good!

Day 5 [LAST DAY]

Sadly, our amazing trip was over and we all had collected our certificates from our instructor. We had breakfast and then we got the necessary equipment for our second time doing the jog and dip! Some people didn’t do the jog and dip for a second time but the majority of our group did! After our activities, we said goodbye to the Ullswater staff, and hopped on the bus, ready to come back to school. We definitely enjoyed our stay at Ullswater and we hope that we can come again. Thank you Ullswater crew for helping us along our journey!

Sami and Mateo

Mateo

Hi. Two days before, we started to put up our Christmas tree and decorate it. On Christmas Eve, my dad and I went into our back garden to start taking out these 60 kg concrete slaps we had left in our compost area. We also started to unscrew our fence from the 6 foot tall, wooden poles that held it up. Once we did that, we started to pull out the wooden poles and dig out the compost area. We gave all of the oldest compost to our neighbours and we kept the newest. The next day the skip arrived and my whole family (except from my sister) helped load stuff into the skip. The next day, it was Christmas! For Christmas back scratcher, a cool watch and lots of chocolate. The next day (Boxing Day) I visited my grandparents’ house in Norwich I got a nerf gun (elite 2.0) and a lizard game called guess the chameleon. Goodbye.

Sami

Yes, finally my go. Hi. Let me tell you about my Christmas. On the 20th of December, my parents surprised me by getting my Aunty to come from Spain and spend ten days with us. We went to buy stuff and eat stuff. On Christmas day, we celebrated with my Aunty and went to sleep at one am in the morning. On the 30th of December, we had to go drop my Aunty of at the bus station at 3 am in the morning, and, I got no sleep! That is my blog. Bye.

The Amazing Ullswater Trip By Jude and Josh

My impression of the Outward Bound Centre in Ullswater was incredible.

One of my favourite activities was the jog and dip. I was even able to jump off the jetty and go in the six degrees cold water. Brrrrrr!

Another fun activity was the gorge-walk where you walk up a mountain, it’s very cold; you need some good team work. We learnt two positions: the Roman handshake where you grab wrists to provide more grip and strength; and spotting, where you stand in a certain position and hold onto someone’s waist. The views are stunning and the mountain range takes your breath away. How would you find this brilliant trip?

Thanks for reading,

Jude and Josh

The Amazing Ullswater trip !!! by Kuba and Joel

Mine and my friend’s favourite activity was gorge-walking. We go climbing mini water-falls. The whole trip was a good experience but this activity was the most fun.

The food there was also very good.  My favourite meal was the Pizza and my friend’s was Pizza too , although the breakfast was epic too! Hot chocolate was nice I got to drink it on the mountains.

The mountains there were very nice to look at, the view was unimaginable.  To get there, we had to go on a boat.  The experience was one I’ve never experienced before.

The last activity was the campfire. You get to eat marshmallows (it was EPIC) .Would you like to come? 🙂

BYE!!!

A Fantastic Ullswater Residential Trip. By Lola

We had a great trip and we loved every last second of it but there were a few memories that we will remember for a life time. Just like the power cuts and a fire drill (I had no socks on in the fire alarm when we went outside!) and much better memories of sleeping with my best friends and eating the delicious food every day.

The most enjoyable parts of the trip were the activities; gorge walking on the mountain, orienteering in the woods when it was dark; making stories about stars in the night sky and our ultimate favourite…. THE CAMPFIRE!   We roasted marshmallows and sung some songs.

The journeys there and back were a blast! We still talk about the things we did on the bus until this present day that we are writing this post.

If you’re reading this and you are in a lower year of the school, I guarantee you you’ll have a great time and on the last day of your trip at Ullswater you might even be able to buy some of their Outward Bound merchandise. They sold things from tooth brushes, to beanies, to water bottles and more.

Overall we have to agree that this was the best trip we have over gone on. If you try your best and go beyond your limits you can achieve absolutely anything just put your mind to it.

Our Christmas (at school). By Netania

The classes were full of snowflake decorations.   We also had a Christmas jumper day where we could wear Christmas jumpers.   But that was not only for us Year 6, but for the whole school.   In our French class we decorated some designs on what our very own Christmas jumpers will be like.

The next French class we learnt about how we say a few Christmassy sentences in French.   We also had a Christmas dinner and played games after lunch time with the younger kids.  The next day we met with our little buddies and took them to see Santa.   After that we did a few activates with them.

We made cards and watched movies about Christmas and played with iPads and did drawings and spent time with our friends in school.  We played Christmas music during our classes.

So how was your Christmas?

Grace and Julia- Ullswater Residential

Our trip to Ullswater was Amazing!  There was so many fun activities that you can do in a couple of days that we don’t know which one is our favourite! These activities can include:

Jog & Dip! This is a thrilling experience where you encounter freezing cold water. Be prepared to fetch your towel and wrap up warm. Also, you can complete the gorge walk. You’ll put on your wellies and your waterproof gear and begin your hike up the gorge. Watch out for the bridge, you’re going to have to duck for that one!

Boat riding is amazing no matter what. You could take a rowboat, canoe, speedboat or kayak! You choose the fun ride! Be careful with your paddle though, don’t let it fall in the water!

One of our preferred activities was the mountain walk. Difficult to get to the top, easy going down. Even when you feel like giving up, the views are totally worth it! Plus, you could spot different types of creatures like deer and buzzards. And oh those beautiful colours of the mountains…

The food is excellent as well!  It’s a buffet every night, with something new to try every time. These are only some of the options: pizza, pasta, jacket potato, curry and stew (the pizza was our favourite) even though everything else was tasty!  The accommodation was flawless too! The dorms ranged from 2-6 people each room having a bunk bed/s. Some of us wonder if we slept better there or at home!

Ullswater is A BRILLIANT PLACE to take a break from usual daily life. So do you really want to dawdle? Come over to Ullswater for a life changing experience and more jaw dropping times!

Ullswater Residential- Tiago and Georgie

Ullswater is the most outstanding opportunity you will get in a lifetime!

The most unfortunate part was that the coach was 3-4 hours late and it was immensely troubling for our morning activities but the journey was pretty fun.

When we got there, we found out our group instructors and they showed us to our dorms.

After that, we settled in, put our suitcases down and relaxed.

After we had completed our mini tour, we went outside in the dark and did a few teamwork activities to get us warmed up.  Then we found out where our pods were so that we knew our schedule for the upcoming week.

In the Outward Bound Centre, there is a games room, pods, and a one way system (because of COVID).

After having hot chocolate, we went back to our dorms and got ready for the night.

On the first day of activities, we went for an environmental walk (with a hefty backpack) and it lasted for 4 hours!

Our favourite part was the jog and dip where you jump into the river! We got really cold but we kept on persevering until we could jump in!

Overall, it was the highlight of 2021 for us!

Year 6 Ullswater – Joseph and Billy

After a long 8 hour drive we finally arrived at Ullswater Lake District. Our favourite activities were: gorge walking, climbing Hallin Fell [one of the biggest mountains there] and Orienteering.

The reason we liked the gorge walking because we like climbing and playing in streams and it is climbing a waterfall. This activity involves your group to work as a team so that everyone can get up the waterfall safely. Also the Outward Bound Centre will give you a helmet and a belt.

Climbing up Hallin Fell was very fun because we like the view from the top. It was also fun rowing across the lake in a rowing boat to get to Hallin Fell. It was also a very nice walk but nice to have a rest on the speedboat that we took to get back.

Orienteering is basically a treasure hunt but instead of treasure it’s little staplers with spikes which made holes in paper in a certain pattern. It was also cool because we did it in the dark and the only light we had was from the head torches that they provided us with.

Finlay-Rae and Tianna-Chantel’s Ullswater Residential

At Ullswater, we were constantly excited about what was going to happen! Whether it was a dip into the lake or a mug of hot chocolate in the evenings, there was always something to look forward to (that includes sleeping). The staff were really kind and thoughtful, they would help you when something got hard .Then you would have the confidence to achieve what you were going to do. This residential teaches you that you can do whatever you decide to set your mind to! They really focus on skills such as determination and resilience.

We did so many activities such as :

  • Stargazing – this is where we made our own constellations and worked together in our own groups to tell a story about them! The stars were beautiful, as well.
  • Jog and dip- this is where you get into Lake Ullswater itself! There are different stages, or ‘challenges’, such as doing a hair flick in the water! You can jump in at the end from the jetty (it is very cold)!
  • Mountain climbing – when we were doing this activity we also tried to find different orienteering spaces. We had our lunch on the mountain and learned that most of them had different names.
  • Gorge walking – this was our favourite activity! You venture into a freezing cold waterfall, but you can’t feel the cold as your wellies heat the water inside them. You have to work as a team to get past the slippery rocks. One person fell back in our group!
  • Environmental walk – here we got on an electric boat and sat back until we had reached our destination only to find out we where having our lunch near the lake. After we had finished our astonishingly yummy lunch, we then had a long 3 hour walk and made some environmentally safe hedgehog homes.  One boy was rating them, and ours came 2nd!
  • Orienteering – we did this in the dark! This was slightly competitive as we all wanted to have the most stamps on our sheets! You are given a map with the location of a stamper, and then you have to try and find it! Our group had the most, which was very nice.

If you come to Ullswater, we know you will have an absolute BLAST! You can even sleep in a dormitory in a bunk bed with loads of your friends which is AMAZING! It’s really comfortable, you have privacy and overall this residential is Fabulous with a capital F. Please decide to go there in Year 6. You definitely won’t regret it!

Will you take on the adventure?

Clarice and Clara’s Ullswater Experience

When we arrived at the long awaited ‘Outward bounds’ centre, we received a well- deserved warm welcome from the staff and instructors working there. We were kindly guided to our dormitories, in which we were allowed time to unpack and settle in.

A while later, we were greeted by a mouth- watering meal, and a creamy strawberry mousse! As it was quite late when we had arrived, we didn’t do any exhausting activities (for our own convenience).

We both enjoyed the canoeing – where our imagination ran wild, racing against the other team, or ‘Royal Fleet’; we both took great pleasure in the den building, (which consisted of using both natural and man- made substances to construct a well-built den); and finally, we mention the campfire, which we relished on our last full day spent in the well- equipped centre.

If you wisely choose to visit this incredible place in the future, we strongly advise you savour every moment- as you will be back from the journey before you know it!
