Ullswater Trip – J and D

Ullswater Trip

Going on an Ullswater trip is really fun because you have to do activities every day! Some can be challenging, some can’t but I personally liked   Gorge walking because it was a new experience for me, going up the mountain while going up the river. It is good exercise for your health. That is a main activity. There are evening activities which you do at night. I enjoyed the blindfold and goggle activity so you have to guess where you’re going.

Going to Ullswater in the summer is good because you won’t be so cold. When you’re Gorge walking it is really slippery so be careful. There is a slot when you’re near the top. Once you have done the slot [all of the group] you go to the side and go back down. I think the activities are all enjoyable (and if you go in the summer you do raft building).

There are main foods, also the are extra things that you put on the side like if you have macaroni and cheese you can put vegetables on the side. If you are wondering where you have lunch, You’ll have lunch on your Activity where you stop. The rooms are also nice it comes with a shower (or two). Three bunk beds. A bathroom with a sink and a toilet were you can go to the toilet and brush your teeth! Ullswater is the place to be!

Go with your friends and learn stuff about them you never knew before! I percenly learned a lot about my friends! Every group gets a instructor “I’m Daniel my instructor was called Chris” “I’m Joshua and my instructor was called David”. As you can see Ullswater is great.

Lake District Blog by Megan and Criscelle

Ullswater Blog

A few weeks ago, Year 6 went on a very fun trip to Ullswater and we had a lot of fun there. We did many challenges and learnt many things with the help of our lovely instructors. We all did many activities and learnt multiple skills while doing some extremely difficult challenges and activities and a few people (including us) got over some skills throughout our course.

Activities:

  • Jog ‘n’ Dip
  • Hiking up a Mountain
  • Tunneling
  • Gorge Walking
  • Rock climbing

Most activities were fun, such as: Gorge walking, Rock climbing, Jog ‘n’ Dip and climbing up a wall. These are the reasons we find these specific activities enjoyable:

Both of our opinions:

Gorge Walking was fun because we improved on our supporting skills and encouraging each other. It was also fun because our communication was much better than the day we arrived and we were much more comfortable with each other and all our team.

Criscelle’s thoughts:

Rock climbing was also fun because at first I was nervous, scared and really dreading to do the activity and I did feel that way on the first try but once I learnt the techniques on what to do, I really enjoyed it and I climbed further than I could imagine.

Megan’s thoughts:

Before it was my turn to climb, I was really nervous but once I did it, I was proud of myself for how high I went. When we went the 2nd time, I was really confident in myself and I went even higher! By the end I wanted to do it again because I found it really fun.

Overall, this trip was really fun and we both enjoyed it a lot. Each day we did something enjoyable and learned something new. Our comfort zones have expanded entirely and we are very grateful for joining in on the journey. It was an incredible experience.

The Lake District Blog by Noah and Antonio

The Lake District was awesome! The journey took 7 hours (by coach) but was totally worth it, even though we had to get up at 4:00. When we got there, the view was amazing you could see the whole lake. Our favourite thing was the activities; our favourite activity was gorge walking despite getting very wet and cold because, it felt so achieving in the end. The activities were the best, some were, jog and dip, mountain hiking and shelter building; they were just some of them, there’s so much more! It may have been a whole week, but in our eyes it felt like a second, because time flies when you’re having fun! The food was extremely delicious and there was a wide variety of choices for everybody, including vegetarians and vegans. We would recommend the centre for children and adults alike.

Our Ullswater Experience by Roysen and Matteo

Ullswater Trip

Ullswater is a lovely place to go and see the nice landscapes, climb mountains and much more! In the Outward Bound Center, there are really nice instructors that you would love to meet be in their group. I would really recommend Ullswater to the whole school and that you should not be scared to go.

Activities

We had a lot of activities In Ullswater including climbing a mountain, jog and dip, gorge walking and a lot more. My favourite activities were jog and dip, gorge walking, lake adventure and a couple more.

Facilites

The facilities were really amazing.at breakfast and dinner you would eat in a wide cafeteria which was 2 rooms. The bedrooms are also good, they have two showers, one toilet and a wide room with three bunkbeds.

Food

The food here is very delicious and scrumptious. For breakfast we basically ate a English breakfast. For lunch we ate some sandwiches, crisps, brownies and flapjacks. For dinner you have a variety of different meals like potatoes, rice, pizza and more. After that we would have Hot chocolate and digestive biscuits.

ON THE TRIP MY (FIN, PERSON WHO WENT TO ULLSWATER) FAVOURITE PART WAS WHEN I WENT TO A FACE OF A CLIFF AND MADE IT TO THE TOP TWICE ,ON MY SECOND ATTEMPT i had to do it ONE HANDED AND, I MADE IT HALF WAY UP AND THEN I HAD TO USE BOTH HANDS IF NOT I WOULD HAVE FALLEN AND INJURED MYSELF ON THE WALL.

I ALSO LOVED IT WHEN WE WENT GORGE WALKING WHICH IS A CHALLENGING ACTIVITY WHERE YOU HAVE TO WALK UP A WATERFULL WHERE YOU HAVE TO TRUST YOUR GROUP.

TIMELINE:

Monday morning:

At 4 am Fin woke up from his delicate meandering sleep whilst Seb was sleeping.

At 8.40 Seb arrived at school on his own, listening to music,at this time, Fin was playing Uno with Daniel and also eating after eights.

At roughly 1 pm Fin arrived at Ullswater National Park enthusiastic for the week ahead, at the same time Seb was having his lunch it was meatballs.

At 1.30 Seb started making a delicious chocolate cake with Mrs. R.

Tuesday:

Fin woke up with a start at 7 am whilst Seb was eating his Coco-pops.

At 1pm Seb was eating his lunch with Praise as Fin was hiking up a mountain.

Wednesday:

At 7 am Fin was woken from his delicate slumber by a gentle knock, at this same time, Seb was sleeping.

At 1pm Seb was eating a roast whilst Fin was doing another activity.

At 1.30 Seb left to go to Eaton Park, Fin was still rock climbing.

At 8 pm, Fin was map reading in the dark with the head torches on a plot of land that was 17 acres large .

Thursday:

At 7am Seb was still sleeping as Fin was woken at a start by a knock .

At 1pm Seb was eating like always as fin was climbing up a fast moving waterfall risking his life.

At 8pm Fin was writing an important letter to the head of Ullswater National Park informing him about the issues of climate change as Seb was watching TELETUBBIES.

AT 3AM FIN WAS AWOKEN BY THE FIRE ALARM AS SEB SHOOK HIS HOUSE AS HE SNORED.

FRIDAY:

AT 7AM FIN WAS AWOKEN AGAIN AS SEB WAS STILL ASLEEP.

AT 1PM SEB WAS EATING HIS LUNCH FIN WAS SHIVERING IN ULLSWATER LAKE.

Ullswater trip by L and M

Ullswater-

This is a place for young explorers who can start their journeys and passion for adventure; lots of them will come here to do so.

Ullswater is a great territory for exploring, learning and stretching out of your comfort zone. It is an iridescent place where you can let your imagination run wild – trees swaying, green grass fields, lakes, mountains standing proudly, waterfalls and little huts with smoke steaming out of the chimney.

Lea’s point of view

I absolutely loved it (although I had a muddy –related accident). I love the way that I still got to take part in some activities and had the greatest time in my life! When we first got there, (after 7-8 hours of journey) we had to do jog + dip, and had a marvellous dinner. I didn’t do much the next day, but still, I had a marvellous time with my TA in the other groups. My favourite activity was the tunnelling, canoeing and mountain hiking because they all were to do with nature and learning that that we can be an explorer. My passion for adventure has begun … My rating is 9 out of ten. This trip made me realise what I can do and what I am capable of doing with an injury.  Believe in yourself and make it happen!

Milena’s point of view

I absolutely loved it. Loved the activities and everything around the house that we stayed in including the beautiful lake (Ullswater), the mountains, the forests and everything else. When we arrived (after the 7-8 hour journey) we did the jog+dip which included going into freezing water, submerging our bodies and being really wet. I loved every minute even when we had to get up at 11:00pm and 2:00am because the fire alarm went off. My favourite activity was the gorge walking because it really stretched me and made me realise what I’m capable of .My rating is 10 out of 10.

Lake District Blog by Georgia and Eva

If you are looking for something to boost your confidence; something to help with your perseverance; something to get you exploring the great outdoors, then the Lake District is the perfect place for you! Determination, independence, responsibility and self-belief are just a few of the personal skills we learnt there, and don’t even get us started on the physical skills we developed on our fabulous trip!

We learnt to communicate with each other and help each other through a mysterious obstacle course blindfolded! We learnt to paddle through a lake to the beach (the very rocky beach) in our canoes. We learnt to map read when orienteering in the night through the forest. We learnt to mountain climb when clambering up the towering, sky scraping mountains. We learnt to help each other up the gorge when using the roman handshake. We learnt to deal with coldness and dirtiness and most of all, learnt to have fun!

Going To London The Royal Albert Hall

By Belle and Pola

On the 13th of November 2019 we went on a trip of a life time. It took us around three hours to get there. Once we arrived in London we went to the Royal Albert Hall, We arrived there it around seven and the first performance to start the whole evening was probably the one of the best acts of the whole thing: the other really good performance was our school choir’s performance, which was probably the main reason of why we went there. One of the main reasons of why it was so good was because it was a mixture of adults and children, orchestras and singing. Even though, all of these performances were amazing we also had a fantastic double decker coach… On the way there we could bring whatever we wanted, except phones, and had a brilliant time playing games on the journey there. On the way back mostly everyone went to sleep. This was probably one of the places! If you don’t go on this trip you will miss the experience of a lifetime. Although the whole thing was absolutely spectacular, the ending celebration was the best thing ever.

Ullswater Adventure Blog by Keane and Rafhael

This trip was an experience of a lifetime. On the 4th November we went to The Lake District in Ullswater. Even though it took 7 hours, the whole 5 days we spent was definitely worth it.

The focus of the activities was based around teamwork and cooperation which was overall amazing and so was the food. Speaking about food, the meals were exquisite every time at breakfast and dinner or lunch.

One of our favourite activities we did was called gorge walking. Gorge walking is when a group of us walk up a waterfall but we had to use the roman handshake which is when we hold each other’s wrist so we wouldn’t slip.  Also, there was also a stake Anchor but also a spotter so you don’t fall back.

If we went again, we would definitely do every single thing that there was to surprise us and eat every meal there was to enjoy. All the rooms and all the supplies were very nice but also very clean and sanitary. The beds were very comfortable.

Overall it was AMAZING and if you miss out on this trip, you have been living under a rock and have been missing out on all the most exciting experience of your life!

Lake District blog by Oscar and Harry

It took us 8 hours to get there and back by coach.

When we got there, our first activity was jog and dip. Jog and dip is where we go for a walk in the woods by the sheep then we walk and then jump off the pier if we wanted to.

After jog and dip, we had around 45 minutes to sort all our things out and make our beds.

After this, we had dinner with 4 choices for a meal.

We then did our evening activity in our pods, we were told just some basics about the centre and the lake. We did the run in the freezing lake same routine everyday with different activities except for Friday and Monday.

All the activities we did were: Jog and dip, dynamics, gorge walking, orienteering, canoeing, nightline, mountain hiking, John Muir award. This was a really fabulous trip because it was exciting to go out every day and explore in the wild. It was really worth the money because it was such a remarkable experience. The coach was really nice, it had foot rests, bag space and places to put your food when you ate.

Our Lake District Blog – George and Thomas

Our blog about the amazing Lake District

By Thomas and George

It took us about 7 hours to get to the Outward Bound Centre by coach.

When we got there we had time to go to our rooms and sort out everything.

After that, we went down to the lounge and got into groups of 11.

Later, we had a tour and then did jog and dip which is basically jogging towards the lake and then running and jumping into it.

Afterwards, we went to have a warm shower then we had free time in our rooms and then had dinner. Dinner was amazing as we had 4 different options to choose from (including a vegetarian option).

Later we had an evening activity which then took us to having hot chocolate while writing our journals.

Every day we did the same routine but we had breakfast in the morning and really different activities.

We did mountain climbing, tunnelling, canoeing and gorge walking (climbing up a waterfall). They were all extremely fun and the instructors were really funny and kind. It was a once in a life time experience, if you got a chance to go don’t think about not going. You will not regret going!

Ullswater blog by WS and WM

On the 4th of November 2019 we had to be at school for 4.40am and we had to go on a bus. We had two stops while we were on the bus and it took about 6 to 8 hours.

When we got there the first thing we saw was the most beautiful view ever: the mountains were massive and Ullswater was so looooooong!

The first person we saw greated us. She was called Yana and she read us a story about Shackleton. We unpacked and the first activity we did was jog and dip (Basically jogging and jumping into the water) IT WAS FREEZING COLD! At the outward bound trust we had hot chocolate and cookies.

Every day we got warm breakfast, the lunch we took on different trips outside, dinner and hot chocolate. We stayed there for 5 days it was amazing and fun. We took part in loads of fun activities (We all had our own groups named after famous explorers). There were room inspections for which we got points.

Overall, the trip was amazing we both enjoyed it so much.

Lake Ullswater (Outward Bound)

Ullswater blog

By Imogen and Milena

It was a once in a life time opportunity and was worth the 7 hour drive. My first impression was mind blowing. Throughout the week we did loads of teamwork activities and learned new things like S.N.O.T (which you will learn when you arrive). Each evening we would have an activity and then settle down with a cup of hot chocolate whilst filling in our journals.

On the last day we did Jog and Dip 2.0. We get ready then get a power boat across the lake, jump of the boat swim to the other side and jump of mini cliffs into the water and over back to the boat. Most of the dormitories had really comfy beds and there were rooms of 6, 4 and 2. “My favourite activity was gorge walking.” (Imogen). “My favourite activity was climbing the mountain Hallin Fell.” (Milena). Ullswater was truly an amazing experience and we would recommend it.

Lake District

An Ullswater blog

By Crisha & Angelica

At the start of the week, on the 4th November 2019, most of Year 6 were treated to a trip to Ullswater and we had the most memorable trip that we could ever have!

Although the journey took forever (to be precise, it took 7 hours), when we arrived, we were on our way to our first activity, which was held by our aMaZiNg instructors, and the activity was Jog & Dip. It was EXTREMELY COLD  but it was still fun to experience (it was also funny because one of us forgot to bring a swimsuit ^o^).

The Jog & Dip was definitely one of our personal favourite activities because it was fun to be in cold water as it was one of the only activities where we could be in water.

In the evening, we got to drink and eat hot chocolate, biscuits and cake while we had to fill in our evening journals.

Overall, we both loved the experience; the instructors were the best; the food was delicious; the activities were fun; and the whole trip was FANTASTIC!! We would definitely go again!!

Ullswater Trip

Going on an Ullswater trip is really fun, although you do have to drive 6 hours to get there. You get at least two activities a day!

The most challenging thing I personally think was the Gorge walk, first of all because the rocks were so slippery and also because there were parts where the water was quite shallow or quite deep.

While we were walking back to the minibus we all saw a skull, spine, and some flesh that were left over from a sheep that had got probably eaten by a fox. Afterwards, we had nice warm hot chocolate!!

The next day we went mountain climbing on the mountain which was called Halen Fell.  We all really enjoyed it. We had to wear a belt and a safety helmet to protect our heads. We saw lots of mountain goats which had different colours on their backs.

Also when we got back we had some free time to chill then we had to go and eat dinner,(IT WAS VERY GOOD).

After that we had tunnelling, we had some time to mess about in the tunnels, BUT THEN IT WENT EXTREME MODE, WE HAD TO GO THROUGH THE SMALLEST TUNNEL WITHOUT ANY HEAD TORCHES. Overall tunnelling was extremely fun.

On the next day we went on a big lake adventure!!!so we went to the lake and then on a boat and afterwards row to a place called sandwich bay. Rowing the boat with a paddle was hard as you were paddling and you fingers got very numb and you felt weird after a while of paddling but one you got there you had a nice snack and some time to get a little bit warm and take of your life vests and clip them on to our rucksacks.

When we finished eating we went into the forest and did some bush crafting so making a painting using ferns and other natural sources.

Once we did bush crafting we had some warm hot chocolate and then carried on to another bay that I forgot the name and went on a speed boat back to the centre.

As our evening activity we had a blindfold course around the centre and we bashed into some trees so it hurt a bit it was fun being blindfolded and dodging ropes and other objects in our path and at the end looking at your friends struggle was fun as you were through aswell .

After we finished our evening activity we had hot chocolate and we wrote in our journals what we did and when we finished we went to our rooms and a nice sleep. But sometimes the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. We had go out in our pijamas and it was freezing cold.

ULLSWATER IS AN AMAZING TRIP!!!

Ullswater trip.

Recently, Year Six visited Outward Bound in The Lake District, where we were able to learn lots of new things, go on adventures and spend time with our teachers and classmates. We came back to School with more knowledge about the environment, more confidence, more independence and more self-belief. We learnt how important it is to look after our planet and how we can play our part in saving it.

Activities:

During our course, we were lucky enough to climb gorges, trek up mountains and push ourselves to the limit. We were also participating in:

Tunnels – We were asked to go through various different sized tunnels as our night activity which was from 6:30pm -8:00pm. We all really enjoyed this activity and it taught us to persevere when we were scared.

Robot Destruction – As our night activity, we had to be blindfolded and our teammates were allowed to shout one movement each at us. We did enjoy this as well because we were able to be part of a group and it really tested how well we could work in a team.

Accommodation:

While we were in Ullswater, as well as doing some brilliant activities we stayed in our homely dormitories, which provided everything that we needed on our trip. The beds were really comfortable and we slept really well as we were so tired from the activities each day. There was also a Student Lounge which we could spend time in with our friends.

Overall it was a fantastic residential. We hope you will enjoy it…

Lake District A.R A.C

Lake District

Introduction:

When we arrived we were all excited for this new adventure. We went to our rooms, unpacked and made our beds.

Activities:

Our first activity was jog’n’dip where we jogged to the lake and got life jackets and walked into the lake. Some people went fully submerged into the lake.

The first full day we were there we hiked up a mountain and eat lunch on the mountain. After we got to the top, we went back down a different route and made pictures with leaves and moss.

The third day we were there, we did rock climbing up the face of a cliff with lots of support by fellow peers. First we climbed it but lots of people didn’t get to the top [it’s really hard].  It got really cold so we eat lunch in a group shelter.

The fourth day we were there, we went gorge walking, it enlightened us with joy even if there were a couple of slips. [their were no injuries!] We got really high!

Meals:

The meals were really nice. We had a massive variety each night.  The quality was amazing!   We also got a hot chocolate each night what was one of the best I’ve ever had.

Outward bound trip

Our trip to Ullswater, was the best trip we had in our lives! Our favourite activity was gorge walking. At first, the water was not so cold, mainly because we had wellies without holes in, but a few minutes later, the water seeped in over the tops of our boots (it was very deep in places.)On the first day, all of us were surprised how we had to jump in the freezing, cold lake. After that, our group settled down and stayed in are dorms till lunch.

We all continued to explore the wild in Ullswater. We climbed on hills and walked through the forests, luckily without anyone getting hurt-we still made a stretcher though! We also, took part in numerus water activities including canoeing and jog and dip where you jog to the lake walk into the water and after, jump of a jetty. There is also a jog and dip extreme: jump of a boat and swim to the shore and back. This is one of the very popular activities in the Lake District.

The most exciting part is when we first seen are dooms and made are self’s at home. Next, we met are Instructors, which were very smart and funny: they gave us dairy milk sweets!

The Lake District – By Anika and Karina

The Lake District

The Lake District is an amazing place where you have anything you can imagine – you have forests, mountains, a lake, waterfalls and nature! The long grass sways in the wind as humming sounds from the rustling leaves combine and create a melody of their own. If you gaze up into the sky, the birds that rule the air glide under the clouds while the glistening sun beams down into the meadows below. The lake glistens with the waters’ tide drifting onto the shore, the tiny waves stroking your feet. The wildlife is everywhere, and it makes the place form together like a puzzle.

Anika’s Point of View

Our trip to the Lake District was epic and it challenged me when we went Gorge Walking – it was when we had to climb a steep part of the waterfall – the water was freezing and when you put your hand into the water! It felt like the bitter feeling was taking out the warmth from your body and replacing it with cold. Another fun part of the trip was when we sat outside in the forest, watching our campfire as the flame danced before us. And when we came back into the woods, we went into a hut and had marshmallows inside. The sweet taste lolled on my tongue as the marshmallow stretched from my mouth. It changed you into a braver and stronger person, taking all those worries and putting them in the garbage can, so that you didn’t have to deal with them ever again. It made you feel like you was born again, and a fresh start of your life was ahead of you. So if you are reading this and you are in year 5, you definitely need to go on this trip!

Karina’s Point of View

Hey! I am Karina and I really enjoyed the trip to the Lake District because it pushed me out of my comfort zones in most parts. I really liked mountain climbing, because I never climbed a mountain (until now), and it challenged me because there was a very steep part when barely anyone got through quickly, but luckily, I was the first one to touch the summit (the summit is the highest part of the mountain). I also enjoyed toasting marshmallows because it was satisfying watching them burn in front of my eyes as the sweet taste of the marshmallow melted in my mouth. I also would like to point out that all these activities are challenging! It’s not as easy as eating pie; it is mostly you getting scared but hey, that’s alright that is the point of going. Never stop trying, never stop believing, never give up and persevere!
