St. Francis of Assisi – School Blog

Learning and growing together in God's love.

Chloe’s and Ayda’s Ullswater trip.

After a long 9 hour trip we finally reached our destination. The coaches were nice and welcoming even though we were late.  Overall, through the whole trip, we enjoyed every bit. It challenged us loads, but what we enjoyed most was Gorge Walking, since it challenged us and bonded us we didn’t think we would. All the dinners were delicious, especially the seconds! We had nature at our fingertips and the sunsets and rises were beautiful.

We think the thing that challenged us the most was mountain climbing, since you had to walk so far, but it was definitely worth it for the views and amazing sunsets on the mountain.  It was scary to be on a trail with no barriers, as it was so high up.  Surprisingly, most of the high hills you saw weren’t mountains!  The view out onto the lake was astonishing.  The water was so clear you could see the floor!

The last day had an amazing end to it –  we all gathered round a campfire and all had roasted marshmallows.  In the norning, we were all so sad to have to say goodbye to our amazin instructors.  They waved goodbye to us as we headed back.

Our Ullswater Experience by Roysen and Matteo

Ullswater Trip

Ullswater is a lovely place to go and see the nice landscapes, climb mountains and much more! In the Outward Bound Center, there are really nice instructors that you would love to meet be in their group. I would really recommend Ullswater to the whole school and that you should not be scared to go.

Activities

We had a lot of activities In Ullswater including climbing a mountain, jog and dip, gorge walking and a lot more. My favourite activities were jog and dip, gorge walking, lake adventure and a couple more.

Facilites

The facilities were really amazing.at breakfast and dinner you would eat in a wide cafeteria which was 2 rooms. The bedrooms are also good, they have two showers, one toilet and a wide room with three bunkbeds.

Food

The food here is very delicious and scrumptious. For breakfast we basically ate a English breakfast. For lunch we ate some sandwiches, crisps, brownies and flapjacks. For dinner you have a variety of different meals like potatoes, rice, pizza and more. After that we would have Hot chocolate and digestive biscuits.

Lake District Blog by Georgia and Eva

If you are looking for something to boost your confidence; something to help with your perseverance; something to get you exploring the great outdoors, then the Lake District is the perfect place for you! Determination, independence, responsibility and self-belief are just a few of the personal skills we learnt there, and don’t even get us started on the physical skills we developed on our fabulous trip!

We learnt to communicate with each other and help each other through a mysterious obstacle course blindfolded! We learnt to paddle through a lake to the beach (the very rocky beach) in our canoes. We learnt to map read when orienteering in the night through the forest. We learnt to mountain climb when clambering up the towering, sky scraping mountains. We learnt to help each other up the gorge when using the roman handshake. We learnt to deal with coldness and dirtiness and most of all, learnt to have fun!

Ullswater Adventure Blog by Keane and Rafhael

This trip was an experience of a lifetime. On the 4th November we went to The Lake District in Ullswater. Even though it took 7 hours, the whole 5 days we spent was definitely worth it.

The focus of the activities was based around teamwork and cooperation which was overall amazing and so was the food. Speaking about food, the meals were exquisite every time at breakfast and dinner or lunch.

One of our favourite activities we did was called gorge walking. Gorge walking is when a group of us walk up a waterfall but we had to use the roman handshake which is when we hold each other’s wrist so we wouldn’t slip.  Also, there was also a stake Anchor but also a spotter so you don’t fall back.

If we went again, we would definitely do every single thing that there was to surprise us and eat every meal there was to enjoy. All the rooms and all the supplies were very nice but also very clean and sanitary. The beds were very comfortable.

Overall it was AMAZING and if you miss out on this trip, you have been living under a rock and have been missing out on all the most exciting experience of your life!

Ullswater blog by WS and WM

On the 4th of November 2019 we had to be at school for 4.40am and we had to go on a bus. We had two stops while we were on the bus and it took about 6 to 8 hours.

When we got there the first thing we saw was the most beautiful view ever: the mountains were massive and Ullswater was so looooooong!

The first person we saw greated us. She was called Yana and she read us a story about Shackleton. We unpacked and the first activity we did was jog and dip (Basically jogging and jumping into the water) IT WAS FREEZING COLD! At the outward bound trust we had hot chocolate and cookies.

Every day we got warm breakfast, the lunch we took on different trips outside, dinner and hot chocolate. We stayed there for 5 days it was amazing and fun. We took part in loads of fun activities (We all had our own groups named after famous explorers). There were room inspections for which we got points.

Overall, the trip was amazing we both enjoyed it so much.

Lake District

An Ullswater blog

By Crisha & Angelica

At the start of the week, on the 4th November 2019, most of Year 6 were treated to a trip to Ullswater and we had the most memorable trip that we could ever have!

Although the journey took forever (to be precise, it took 7 hours), when we arrived, we were on our way to our first activity, which was held by our aMaZiNg instructors, and the activity was Jog & Dip. It was EXTREMELY COLD  but it was still fun to experience (it was also funny because one of us forgot to bring a swimsuit ^o^).

The Jog & Dip was definitely one of our personal favourite activities because it was fun to be in cold water as it was one of the only activities where we could be in water.

In the evening, we got to drink and eat hot chocolate, biscuits and cake while we had to fill in our evening journals.

Overall, we both loved the experience; the instructors were the best; the food was delicious; the activities were fun; and the whole trip was FANTASTIC!! We would definitely go again!!

Lake District Blog by Rene and Kaiser

On 4th November, the Year 6 went to the Lake District to the Outward Bound centre at Ullswater.

Our favourite activity was gorge-walking.  It involves walking up a gorge which has water running through it quite quickly, so it is potentially dangerous, but we were wearing helmets and harnesses and were given important safety instructions, so we were safe.

There was one person who was sitting on a rock which was above your knee height, so they would hold you and you were trying to pull yourself up, then the next person who was at the front, would hold their harness so they wouldn’t fall off when the person went forward.

It took about 2 hours for this activity and it was great fun and an exquisite challenge.

We also enjoyed doing ‘Jog ‘n’ Dip’ as we jumped off the jetty into the freezing cold water and had to swim back to shore.

Overall, we would recommend this trip to others thinking about going.

Lake District not there blog

Well, I didn’t go to the Lake District, but I did lots of activities like we created a magazine.

And we went to Eaton Park, created a space ship and went to Mars. At Eaton Park we did mapping, watching a speedboat and got splashed all over the place, we met a golden Retriever and stroked it, we went to the café.   I drank tea and had ice cream and then we went to the playground and had a play break and went back to class.

We created the space ship with metal and it was powered by a nuclear reactor.

The crew was the class and the captain was Noah. We launched it at the National Space Centre in Leicester and we went to Mars. When we landed on Mars we put up a United Kingdom flag and discovered aliens.  Sebastian took a picture of the aliens with his space camera. Our space suits had built in lasers so we can defeat the evil aliens, but we found some friendly aliens and just left them alone. Then we went home with some Mars merchandise from the Mars Shop with lots of space pounds we bought with us. Then we went home and we landed on the school field.

We made a film in the end about what we did in the week before the children at Lake District came home

The film was like a documentary about Lake District.

And we made a magazine about Lake District and drew the front cover

We built a time machine and went to the dinosaur time and had a dinosaur adventure and we took a picture of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and had lunch with a Triceratops herd and swam in the ocean and took a picture of a Megalodon shark.

And this may not have anything about Lake District this is about my friend Filip.

The creatures he has in his aquarium are three orcas, a great white shark, 10 dolphins, fish, sperm whale and a blue whale. Filip has a café at his aquarium called the Underworld

Lake District Trip by Anni and Laura

We went on a school trip to the lovely lakes in the Lake District, many children stretched out of their comfort zones. Teamwork was the main basis of all our activities; the instructors helped us conquer our fears. Through our journey in Ullswater our souls grew, whilst supported by our friends through difficult challenges. We participated in the following,  fabulously fun activities: get to know us activities; jog and dip, a cold challenge; tunnelling, in specially made tunnels; mountain climbing, on mountains with pretty views; and  canoeing, where we paddled 5 miles across Ullswater these were only a few of the activities  we took part in. Specialist equipment was provided for every challenge.

Ullswater {Martha and Poppy}

Our Year 6 trip to the Lake District was fun, memorable and an opportunity that we will never forget. We have experienced life changing moments and have been able to let our inner selves come out of our shells. We’ve been out of our comfort zones and when times have been tough we have picked each other up, gorge walking has put our trust to the test and we have learnt what we are capable of. When we arrived in Ullswater, we were little weaklings and now we are full of courage and ready to take on any challenge. Every activity tested our confidence and with the help of others we overcame it all. A few of the activities were : canoeing , mountaineering , gorge walking and jog and dip. After the seven hour journey of excitement, we were pleasantly greeted by utterly delicious and mouth-watering food that tasted like you were having a meal in heaven, it was way beyond nice! The accommodation couldn’t have been any better, with beds that made you never want to get up and showers were steaming with comfort and warmth after a cold, but thrilling day out. It was worth EVERY PENNY!

The Lake District 2018 – Year 6 School Trip {Julia and Emma}

Many children went on this incredible school trip to the Lake District and were amazed by what they saw, so this is the reason why we want to share it with you so you know what it felt like when we were there! This was a memorable trip for everyone that went, many children described it as breath taking and an incredible experience we will never forget. The children participated in many fun activities such as: canoeing, row boating, gorge walking and jog and dip. Even though the lake was ice cold we had lots of fun anyway, we laughed, smiled and it took our minds of the coldness of the lake and made it more bearable. We were provided with all the necessary equipment which was needed for the range of activities we participated in. All of this equipment was very high quality and proved itself useful during our fabulous trip. Whilst we were there, we were greeted with mouth watering meals and high level accommodation. We were pleased that we went on the trip and would love to go again in the future.
