Year 6 Residential Trip. By Tymek and Rylan

Day 1

After the 9 hour bus trip [which was fun] we arrived where the lovely instructors guided us around the residential. Obviously the trip was tiring so we went to sleep.

Day 2

On Day Two, we woke up and went down for breakfast which included toast beans and more. After we met with are instructor and got packing also had a little tour of the massive building. First was Gorge walking. Lots of fun and water flushing down it was really cold but a life time experience.

Anyway this was amazing I really recommend going you’ll love it.

Matilde’s Year 6 Ullswater trip 😊

My trip to Ullswater was super duper awesome! My favourite activity was Gorge Walking (which is climbing a waterfall). We didn’t like that lunch was the same every day. Sandwich, fruit, crisps and a small dessert  😅. I got to sleep in a dorm room with my friends tough, so that’s good 😀 .

You have fun and learn lots as well, so that’s good. You also have free time, so you can play with your friends – a particularly good game was sock monster! There was also a HUGE game of Manhun, which was really fun as well!

Year 6 Residential – Anais, Olaya and Ellen

Day 1

On our residential trip to Ullswater, we first of all got on the coach. It took us 9 hours including stops! Once we arrived, we met our instructors and got shown to our dorms to make our beds. Soon after, we went back down for tea in the dining room. We gobbled down our delicious food before waiting for our practice fire drill at our group’s fire assembly point. After our fire drill we saw our pods and kit rooms. We went back to the centre for lovely, warm hot chocolate!

Day 2

On day 2 we got the morning wakeup call before going down for breakfast and making our beds. Then set off to our first activity. It was different, depending on which group we were in. For Scotts, we did gorge climbing (waterfall climbing) and for Mallory, they did jog and dip. Both activities were really enjoyable but however, quite cold. We had a picnic for lunch before carrying on and heading back to the centre.

Once we got back, we returned our equipment to the kit room then went back to our dorms for free time and showers. After that, we headed down at our allotted times (which was different depending which group you were in) for dinner -which was very delicious- then headed out for our evening activity. The one Scotts did was Orienteering. Orienteering is using maps to find objects. Mallory team did Nightlight. It’s where you hold onto a rope whilst blindfolded and have to find your way around the forest. After, we went back for hot chocolate and bed.

Day 3

We had our usual morning routine and headed off to yet another adventure where Scotts went orienteering whilst mountain climbing whilst orienteering. It was incredibly cold but very enjoyable (especially when we got to lead the rest of the group around). Then, we headed back to the centre. Once we arrived back everyone headed back to their dorms for free time. Finally, we had our usual afternoon of dinner and an afternoon activity where Scott team did star gazing with Mallory before hot chocolate and sleep.

Days 4 and 5

On day 4 we had our usual morning breakfast and did one of our last morning activities which was rowing across the lake it was very very fun but tiring and cold we headed back and warmed up for dinner and our afternoon activity of a fire with Shackleton and Malory then onto day 5 we only managed to fit in one which was jog and dip. There were 5 stages, ankles, knees, hips, armpits and all the way in. If you finished it you could jump off. Then we headed back home (to school and then home).

Thanks for reading,

Ullswater trip. Oliver and Edward Y6

After 8 long hours on the bus we finally arrived in our Y6 trip AKA Ullswater.   When we went out, there was the biggest mountain I had ever seen!   it looked amazing.  After that we went and climbed a mountain which was called Hellin Fell.  It was absolutely big. We saw ancient rocks. growing and the beautiful views. We did all sorts of activities.

Once the place where you will be was actually the Lord’s house its pretty cool right. For me one of the most annoying activities was jog and dip. It was where we would go to the cold water and finally its over. That’s all. 🙂

TRIP TO ULLSWATER By Marie and Kaja

Year Six

Ullswater trip

Our Year Six Ullswater Trip started like this, we all woke up roughly at 3:00am and drove to school (the teachers were already waiting for us with the registers). We waited for the bus for over 30 minutes until we found out we had to go home and wait 2-3 hours until we could go back to school! Finally, when the bus arrived me and my friend (Marie) sat at the mid-front. It took us about 20 minutes to get all settled and after we were nice and comfortable the bus started to go and we started to wave goodbyes to our parents. We took about 3-4 stops for the 7 hours’ drive.

Once we got there, it was already dark and it was raining. We got sent to our instructors for a tour and to get to know each other. After all that we got sent to our dorms (our room) to make our beds, unpack and get to the dining hall for dinner. The food was amazing! After we ate we went to our dorm with the people we were with and put our PJs on and began to go to sleep.

ACTIVITIES

For the activites (we did them in our groups) there were:

* Jog and dip

* Mountain climbing (level 1)

* Gorge walking (level 1)

* Gorge walking (level 2)

* Canoeing

*Speed boating

* Scavenger hunt (at night)

* Night line

* Mountain climbing (level 2)

All these activities contained team work and resilience. They were also REALLY FUN!

Eli and Amelia Year 6 residential trip to Ullswater! 😎 2021

My favourite part of Ullswater was when we all gathered all around a campfire and got wood for the fire while waiting for the marshmallows to come around the circle. Also, doing this activity we got to sing songs, tell stories and sing carols.

My favourite part of our trip was when we did the gorge walk (we climbed up a little mountain stream). I liked this activity because it was all about teamwork and skill you didn’t even know you had.

Tianna, Nathalie and Harshni’s Ullswater experience!

Day 1

When we arrived at Ullswater, it was already dark outside. Our teacher’s handed out our bags to us and then we were assigned to our group instructors. We got lead to our rooms then, shortly after we played games with our group in the courtyard because we didn’t have much time to do a proper activity. After dinner, we had hot chocolate and did a bit of writing.

Day 2

On the second day, we were woken up early in the morning to have breakfast and start our day. After breakfast, we went to the kit room and got all of our equipment for our first activity. We were provided with fleece tops and trousers to keep us warm. Secondly, we drove in minibus B to our destination, where we were going to start our walk. After a few minutes of walking, we stopped for lunch and listened to the peaceful raindrops clash into the lake. We got back into the minibus after our walk and drove back to the centre. After dinner, we set off on our last activity for the day, jog ‘n’ dip. The river was so cold, we felt like we had frostbite! Some people jumped into the river, but it was your choice (Nathalie was too scared to).

Day 3

In the morning, we got all of our essential needs for the gorge walk. When we climbed the waterfall, it was cold at first, but then we got used to it and we worked together to successfully climb it to the top! Our last activity for that day was orienteering in the dark and it was so scary!!!! We actually got lost on our way because of how dark it was outside! We all accidently went the wrong ways and split up.

Day 4

On day 4, we were woken up at 7:00 to have breakfast. We walked to the kit room to meet our group, then we got all of our equipment and we wore extra layers!!! We set off for our hill walk, it was very tiring. We walked up Hallin Fell and we stopped midway to have lunch. As soon as we came back, we had a shower and got ready for our last activity of the day! Then we had dinner before we went down to the woods to have a campfire! We roasted some marshmallows over the fire and they were so good!

Day 5 [LAST DAY]

Sadly, our amazing trip was over and we all had collected our certificates from our instructor. We had breakfast and then we got the necessary equipment for our second time doing the jog and dip! Some people didn’t do the jog and dip for a second time but the majority of our group did! After our activities, we said goodbye to the Ullswater staff, and hopped on the bus, ready to come back to school. We definitely enjoyed our stay at Ullswater and we hope that we can come again. Thank you Ullswater crew for helping us along our journey!

Clarice and Clara’s Ullswater Experience

When we arrived at the long awaited ‘Outward bounds’ centre, we received a well- deserved warm welcome from the staff and instructors working there. We were kindly guided to our dormitories, in which we were allowed time to unpack and settle in.

A while later, we were greeted by a mouth- watering meal, and a creamy strawberry mousse! As it was quite late when we had arrived, we didn’t do any exhausting activities (for our own convenience).

We both enjoyed the canoeing – where our imagination ran wild, racing against the other team, or ‘Royal Fleet’; we both took great pleasure in the den building, (which consisted of using both natural and man- made substances to construct a well-built den); and finally, we mention the campfire, which we relished on our last full day spent in the well- equipped centre.

If you wisely choose to visit this incredible place in the future, we strongly advise you savour every moment- as you will be back from the journey before you know it!

Our Ullswater Experience by Roysen and Matteo

Ullswater Trip

Ullswater is a lovely place to go and see the nice landscapes, climb mountains and much more! In the Outward Bound Center, there are really nice instructors that you would love to meet be in their group. I would really recommend Ullswater to the whole school and that you should not be scared to go.

Activities

We had a lot of activities In Ullswater including climbing a mountain, jog and dip, gorge walking and a lot more. My favourite activities were jog and dip, gorge walking, lake adventure and a couple more.

Facilites

The facilities were really amazing.at breakfast and dinner you would eat in a wide cafeteria which was 2 rooms.The bedrooms are also good,they have two showers,one toilet and a wide room with three bunkbeds.

Food

The food here is very delicious and scrumptious.For breakfast we basically ate a English breakfast.For lunch we ate some sandwiches,crisps,brownies and flapjacks. For dinner you have a variety of different meals like potatoes, rice, pizza and more. After that we would have Hot chocolate and digestive biscuits.

Ullswater trip by L and M

Ullswater-

This is a place for young explorers who can start their journeys and passion for adventure; lots of them will come here to do so.

Ullswater is a great territory for exploring, learning and stretching out of your comfort zone. It is an iridescent place where you can let your imagination run wild – trees swaying, green grass fields, lakes, mountains standing proudly, waterfalls and little huts with smoke steaming out of the chimney.

Lea’s point of view

I absolutely loved it (although I had a muddy –related accident). I love the way that I still got to take part in some activities and had the greatest time in my life! When we first got there, (after 7-8 hours of journey) we had to do jog + dip, and had a marvellous dinner. I didn’t do much the next day, but still, I had a marvellous time with my TA in the other groups. My favourite activity was the tunnelling, canoeing and mountain hiking because they all were to do with nature and learning that that we can be an explorer. My passion for adventure has begun … My rating is 9 out of ten. This trip made me realise what I can do and what I am capable of doing with an injury.  Believe in yourself and make it happen!

Milena’s point of view

I absolutely loved it. Loved the activities and everything around the house that we stayed in including the beautiful lake (Ullswater), the mountains, the forests and everything else. When we arrived (after the 7-8 hour journey) we did the jog+dip which included going into freezing water, submerging our bodies and being really wet. I loved every minute even when we had to get up at 11:00pm and 2:00am because the fire alarm went off. My favourite activity was the gorge walking because it really stretched me and made me realise what I’m capable of .My rating is 10 out of 10.

Lake Ullswater (Outward Bound)

Ullswater blog

By Imogen and Milena

It was a once in a life time opportunity and was worth the 7 hour drive. My first impression was mind blowing. Throughout the week we did loads of teamwork activities and learned new things like S.N.O.T (which you will learn when you arrive). Each evening we would have an activity and then settle down with a cup of hot chocolate whilst filling in our journals.

On the last day we did Jog and Dip 2.0. We get ready then get a power boat across the lake, jump of the boat swim to the other side and jump of mini cliffs into the water and over back to the boat. Most of the dormitories had really comfy beds and there were rooms of 6, 4 and 2. “My favourite activity was gorge walking.” (Imogen). “My favourite activity was climbing the mountain Hallin Fell.” (Milena). Ullswater was truly an amazing experience and we would recommend it.

Lake District

An Ullswater blog

By Crisha & Angelica

 At the start of the week, on the 4th November 2019, most of Year 6 were treated to a trip to Ullswater and we had the most memorable trip that we could ever have!

Although the journey took forever (to be precise, it took 7 hours), when we arrived, we were on our way to our first activity, which was held by our aMaZiNg instructors, and the activity was Jog & Dip. It was EXTREMELY COLD  but it was still fun to experience (it was also funny because one of us forgot to bring a swimsuit ^o^).

The Jog & Dip was definitely one of our personal favourite activities because it was fun to be in cold water as it was one of the only activities where we could be in water.

In the evening, we got to drink and eat hot chocolate, biscuits and cake while we had to fill in our evening journals.

Overall, we both loved the experience; the instructors were the best; the food was delicious; the activities were fun; and the whole trip was FANTASTIC!! We would definitely go again!!

Ullswater Trip

Going on an Ullswater trip is really fun, although you do have to drive 6 hours to get there. You get at least two activities a day!

The most challenging thing I personally think was the Gorge walk, first of all because the rocks were so slippery and also because there were parts where the water was quite shallow or quite deep.

While we were walking back to the minibus we all saw a skull, spine, and some flesh that were left over from a sheep that had got probably eaten by a fox. Afterwards, we had nice warm hot chocolate!!

The next day we went mountain climbing on the mountain which was called Halen Fell.  We all really enjoyed it. We had to wear a belt and a safety helmet to protect our heads. We saw lots of mountain goats which had different colours on their backs.

Also when we got back we had some free time to chill then we had to go and eat dinner,(IT WAS VERY GOOD).

After that we had tunnelling, we had some time to mess about in the tunnels, BUT THEN IT WENT EXTREME MODE, WE HAD TO GO THROUGH THE SMALLEST TUNNEL WITHOUT ANY HEAD TORCHES. Overall tunnelling was extremely fun.

             On the next day we went on a big lake adventure!!!so we went to the lake and then on a boat and afterwards row to a place called sandwich bay. Rowing the boat with a paddle was hard as you were paddling and you fingers got very numb and you felt weird after a while of paddling but one you got there you had a nice snack and some time to get a little bit warm and take of your life vests and clip them on to our rucksacks.

When we finished eating we went into the forest and did some bush crafting so making a painting using ferns and other natural sources.

Once we did bush crafting we had some warm hot chocolate and then carried on to another bay that I forgot the name and went on a speed boat back to the centre.

As our evening activity we had a blindfold course around the centre and we bashed into some trees so it hurt a bit it was fun being blindfolded and dodging ropes and other objects in our path and at the end looking at your friends struggle was fun as you were through aswell .

After we finished our evening activity we had hot chocolate and we wrote in our journals what we did and when we finished we went to our rooms and a nice sleep. But sometimes the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. We had go out in our pijamas and it was freezing cold.

ULLSWATER IS AN AMAZING TRIP!!!

Ullswater trip.

Recently, Year Six visited Outward Bound in The Lake District, where we were able to learn lots of new things, go on adventures and spend time with our teachers and classmates. We came back to School with more knowledge about the environment, more confidence, more independence and more self-belief. We learnt how important it is to look after our planet and how we can play our part in saving it.

Activities:

During our course, we were lucky enough to climb gorges, trek up mountains and push ourselves to the limit. We were also participating in:

Tunnels – We were asked to go through various different sized tunnels as our night activity which was from 6:30pm -8:00pm. We all really enjoyed this activity and it taught us to persevere when we were scared.

Robot Destruction – As our night activity, we had to be blindfolded and our teammates were allowed to shout one movement each at us. We did enjoy this as well because we were able to be part of a group and it really tested how well we could work in a team.

Accommodation:

While we were in Ullswater, as well as doing some brilliant activities we stayed in our homely dormitories, which provided everything that we needed on our trip. The beds were really comfortable and we slept really well as we were so tired from the activities each day. There was also a Student Lounge which we could spend time in with our friends.

            Overall it was a fantastic residential. We hope you will enjoy it…

Lake District A.R A.C

Lake District

Introduction:

When we arrived we were all excited for this new adventure. We went to our rooms, unpacked and made our beds.

Activities:

Our first activity was jog’n’dip where we jogged to the lake and got life jackets and walked into the lake. Some people went fully submerged into the lake.

The first full day we were there we hiked up a mountain and eat lunch on the mountain. After we got to the top, we went back down a different route and made pictures with leaves and moss.

The third day we were there, we did rock climbing up the face of a cliff with lots of support by fellow peers. First we climbed it but lots of people didn’t get to the top [it’s really hard].  It got really cold so we eat lunch in a group shelter.

The fourth day we were there, we went gorge walking, it enlightened us with joy even if there were a couple of slips. [their were no injuries!] We got really high!

Meals:

The meals were really nice. We had a massive variety each night.  The quality was amazing!   We also got a hot chocolate each night what was one of the best I’ve ever had.

Outward bound trip

Our trip to Ullswater, was the best trip we had in our lives! Our favourite activity was gorge walking. At first, the water was not so cold, mainly because we had wellies without holes in, but a few minutes later, the water seeped in over the tops of our boots (it was very deep in places.)On the first day, all of us were surprised how we had to jump in the freezing, cold lake. After that, our group settled down and stayed in are dorms till lunch.

We all continued to explore the wild in Ullswater. We climbed on hills and walked through the forests, luckily without anyone getting hurt-we still made a stretcher though! We also, took part in numerus water activities including canoeing and jog and dip where you jog to the lake walk into the water and after, jump of a jetty. There is also a jog and dip extreme: jump of a boat and swim to the shore and back. This is one of the very popular activities in the Lake District.

The most exciting part is when we first seen are dooms and made are self’s at home. Next, we met are Instructors, which were very smart and funny: they gave us dairy milk sweets!

The Lake District – By Anika and Karina

The Lake District

The Lake District is an amazing place where you have anything you can imagine – you have forests, mountains, a lake, waterfalls and nature! The long grass sways in the wind as humming sounds from the rustling leaves combine and create a melody of their own. If you gaze up into the sky, the birds that rule the air glide under the clouds while the glistening sun beams down into the meadows below. The lake glistens with the waters’ tide drifting onto the shore, the tiny waves stroking your feet. The wildlife is everywhere, and it makes the place form together like a puzzle.

Anika’s Point of View

Our trip to the Lake District was epic and it challenged me when we went Gorge Walking – it was when we had to climb a steep part of the waterfall – the water was freezing and when you put your hand into the water! It felt like the bitter feeling was taking out the warmth from your body and replacing it with cold. Another fun part of the trip was when we sat outside in the forest, watching our campfire as the flame danced before us. And when we came back into the woods, we went into a hut and had marshmallows inside. The sweet taste lolled on my tongue as the marshmallow stretched from my mouth. It changed you into a braver and stronger person, taking all those worries and putting them in the garbage can, so that you didn’t have to deal with them ever again. It made you feel like you was born again, and a fresh start of your life was ahead of you. So if you are reading this and you are in year 5, you definitely need to go on this trip!

Karina’s Point of View

Hey! I am Karina and I really enjoyed the trip to the Lake District because it pushed me out of my comfort zones in most parts. I really liked mountain climbing, because I never climbed a mountain (until now), and it challenged me because there was a very steep part when barely anyone got through quickly, but luckily, I was the first one to touch the summit (the summit is the highest part of the mountain). I also enjoyed toasting marshmallows because it was satisfying watching them burn in front of my eyes as the sweet taste of the marshmallow melted in my mouth. I also would like to point out that all these activities are challenging! It’s not as easy as eating pie; it is mostly you getting scared but hey, that’s alright that is the point of going. Never stop trying, never stop believing, never give up and persevere!

Zuzanna and Holly’s Blog on the trip to Ullswater.

This trip was the best of many! It took us seven hours to get to the Lake District but it was worth the effort. When we first arrived, we gazed at the wonderful views of mighty mountains like Gowbarrow Fell and the trickling waterfall of Aira Force.

As our first activity, we did jog and dip(running then jumping into the COLD waters) but that was just getting used to the freezing cold temperatures : throughout the week it got quite chilly as nearly every day we got wet.

Our dormitories were spacious and comforting and then we had hot chocolate, cake and time to fill in our journals with our eyelids drooping: it had been an exhausting day.

After we had had a good night’s sleep, it was time for day two. Everyday we had an activity in the light and an activity at night with delicious meals in between. This is what most of our days looked like but it was so much fun. Other activities we did were: gorge-walking, hill-climbing, canoeing, nightline, jog and dip 2.0,orienteering and the John Muir Award.

This trip was the experience of a lifetime.
