Year 6 Residential – Anais, Olaya and Ellen

on February 1, 2022

Day 1

On our residential trip to Ullswater, we first of all got on the coach. It took us 9 hours including stops! Once we arrived, we met our instructors and got shown to our dorms to make our beds. Soon after, we went back down for tea in the dining room. We gobbled down our delicious food before waiting for our practice fire drill at our group’s fire assembly point. After our fire drill we saw our pods and kit rooms. We went back to the centre for lovely, warm hot chocolate!

Day 2

On day 2 we got the morning wakeup call before going down for breakfast and making our beds. Then set off to our first activity. It was different, depending on which group we were in. For Scotts, we did gorge climbing (waterfall climbing) and for Mallory, they did jog and dip. Both activities were really enjoyable but however, quite cold. We had a picnic for lunch before carrying on and heading back to the centre.

Once we got back, we returned our equipment to the kit room then went back to our dorms for free time and showers. After that, we headed down at our allotted times (which was different depending which group you were in) for dinner -which was very delicious- then headed out for our evening activity. The one Scotts did was Orienteering. Orienteering is using maps to find objects. Mallory team did Nightlight. It’s where you hold onto a rope whilst blindfolded and have to find your way around the forest. After, we went back for hot chocolate and bed.

Day 3

We had our usual morning routine and headed off to yet another adventure where Scotts went orienteering whilst mountain climbing whilst orienteering. It was incredibly cold but very enjoyable (especially when we got to lead the rest of the group around). Then, we headed back to the centre. Once we arrived back everyone headed back to their dorms for free time. Finally, we had our usual afternoon of dinner and an afternoon activity where Scott team did star gazing with Mallory before hot chocolate and sleep.

Days 4 and 5

On day 4 we had our usual morning breakfast and did one of our last morning activities which was rowing across the lake it was very very fun but tiring and cold we headed back and warmed up for dinner and our afternoon activity of a fire with Shackleton and Malory then onto day 5 we only managed to fit in one which was jog and dip. There were 5 stages, ankles, knees, hips, armpits and all the way in. If you finished it you could jump off. Then we headed back home (to school and then home).
